Mexico's bidding for Soccer World Cup 2014

Justino Compean, the new leader of the Mexican soccer federation, said that Mexico was considering bidding for the 2014 World Cup (during an interview published on 22 September 2006).

Compean told El Universal newspaper Mexico could also host in 2010 if South Africa can't resolve its infrastructure worries: "The World Cup would undoubtedly be the icing on the cake. We would like to host a tournament during our administration", (which ends in 2010).

Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1986.
